Induction

Induction

Using acupuncture to induce has become more popular in recent years. It is a safe practise as long as the baby is in an optimal position and there have been no complications during pregnancy.

In Japanese culture full gestation is 42 weeks so we practise cautiously because it is believe that the best place for the baby is in the womb until it is fully developed.

Acupuncture gently induces the baby to move further down the birth canal, helping the body produce the hormones needed to stimulate labour.
The release of these hormones can be triggered by acupuncture and it is for this reason that this treatment is successful in induction.

Most women find this treatment helps them feel more in control, taking the pressure of that they may be feeling about having a hospital induction. These treatments also will help the body cope better if a hospital induction is necessary.

Induction: 1.5hr

This treatment will generally be stronger than previous sessions, to get the qi and blood moving.  Wider gauged needles and more stimulation helps start the hormone cascade.

Needles are placed in the hands, upper and lower back, ankles and feet. These points have a strong descending action. They encourage the qi to flow down which in-turn will help the baby engage and ideally push on the cervix causing labour to begin.

Acupuncture will encourage the normal hormonal response that the body needs to begin labour. So we recommend that you be well prepared for labour!
